			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Ministry of Finance (MOF) has, for the second time, run the Inter-School Budget Debate Challenge. Through the competitions, MOF hopes to promote greater student awareness of the Budget and public financing issues. MOF looks forward to invigorating debates and participation from debaters as well as quiz contestants.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The National University of Singapore is proud to host the Singapore Debate Open 2009.</p>
<p>It will be a series of 4 prelim rounds on Saturday, with a break to Quarters, Semis and Finals on Sunday. Teams are expected from all over the region, and alumni debaters from top American and British institutions will be participating. This will serve as an excellent opportunity for teams to gear up in preparation for KOC Worlds. We are happy to announce that Sarala Subramaniam and Suthen Thomas (Tate) have agreed to be our Chief Adjudicator and Deputy Chief Adjudicator respectively. The tournament is in the British Parliamentary format. Independent teams are welcome to join as well as Junior College teams (JC team cap is 2). The N=1 rule for judges applies to all teams.<span id="more-91"></span></p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Results of SDO2009: </strong></span></p>
<p>The Singapore Debate Open 2009 was held over the past weekend. 58 teams from Singapore and around the region competed in four preliminary rounds, quarters, semis and finals.</p>
<p>The results are:<br />

<p>Satya from Team Satya was named best speaker of the Grand Finals.</p>

<p>On behalf of the SMU Debating Society, I would like to invite all institutions across Asia (polytechnics, junior colleges and universities) to join us for our annual SMU British Parliament IV’s on the <strong>weekend of 24-25th October, 2009. </strong>The tournament details are as follows:<span id="more-87"></span></p>
