DA(S) Debate Camp Dec 2009

ADMIN INFO

This year’s December camp will be held from Friday 18 Dec to Sunday 20 Dec 2009 at RAFFLES INSTITUTION. The Camp will start at 9 a.m. on Friday and Saturday and at 1.30pm on Sunday and end at 5 p.m. for all 3 days.

The camp is meant for Secondary school students with a very basic understanding of debating fundamentals. The focus is to familiarize participants with competitive debating (with strong emphasis on the Secondary Schools Debating Championships). Through the camp, we aim to:

  • Reinforce your argumentative, public speaking and thinking skills;
  • Provide interaction opportunities with former national and international speakers;
  • Allow you to mix and mingle with like-minded students.

You can expect to attend focused skills workshops conducted by illustrious panelists, learn from exhibition debates involving both camp participants and former national debaters, and attend hands-on sessions where you can practise those skills and receive feedback from our experienced trainers. You will also be able to hear from experienced adjudicators and coaches and interact with fellow debaters from other schools. The cost fee for the camp is S$100 per person.

Download the registration form now [link removed]! Deadline for registration is 20 NOV 2009.

  1. Some people have asked whether the camp is _limited_ to only Sec 1-3 students. It is not. If you are familiar with the very basics of public speaking and debate, and are comfortable being part of the camp with a primarily secondary school cohort, you’re more than welcome to sign up. There are already a few JC1 students who have registered for the camp.
    Spaces are limited (to keep the discussion groups small) so sign up early!

  2. I am very sorry to be asking this now; perhaps a little too late, but I wasn’t aware that this training programme isn’t limited to just Sec 1-3 students. Are there still any place left, and if there are, may I (a secondary four student) join?

  3. Hey Natalie,

    Sure, we still have a couple of places left. Just fill the form, and fax it (63552668) to me (or scan it and email it to me) by the end of this week!

    Thanks!
